Hibakusha Stories and the Japan Society Education and Family Programs Department have enjoyed a successful collaboration. It began when Kazuko Minamoto and Robert Fish volunteered to interpret for the program. Since then Hibakusha Stories has presented two more sessions, filling the auditorium to capacity with students from public and private high schools throughout the NYC metro area. The program in May, 2013 presented multiple perspectives: Hiroshima Maiden Shigeko Sasamori, Korean-born resident of Hiroshima Jong-keun Lee, the grandson of U.S. President Harry S. Truman who ordered the bomb’s deployment and Dr. Cynthia Miller, whose father D.C. Van Dyne of the Manhattan Project inadvertently contaminated his family with plutonium poisoning.
