The Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons held in December of 2014 changed the face of the global movement to ban nuclear weapons.  Two important documents from that conference explain the medical, environmental, legal and ethical dimensions of nuclear weapons and why the International Committee of the Red Cross has come to the decision that the only way they can deal with a nuclear detonation is to make certain that they are neither created nor deployed.

THE AUSTRIAN PLEDGE

At the third International Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons, hosted by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna in December, 2014, Austria pledged to provide leadership in the global movement to ban nuclear weapons.
