Janis Lewin is based in New York City and has been photographing the work of the students of Youth Arts New York founder Robert Croonquist for over 20 years.  She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley.  Her passion is art, photography and their history.  She is a master teacher of photography and has taught at The Creative Center where students have experienced chronic health problems, including cancer.

As a teacher, her students return again and again, appreciating her love of photography and her carefully curated presentations on the history of photography. Traveling and teaching in Peru, Ecuador and Italy as well as Cuba, she is a generous and tireless educator, finding great joy in the growth her students. Her work has been published widely in places such as The New York Times, Aperture, and Random House, and is collected by museums and private collectors. Currently working on a project on Latin American immigration to Queens, New York, Lewin continues to expand her portfolio.  Upcoming workshops include Cuba and Peru (2014).  For more information Contact Janis
