Many of the schools we visit in the Bronx are located in the Sixteenth Congressional District, traditionally the poorest district in the United States. According to the 2010 Census, 10.9% of the population was non-Hispanic White, 30.1% non-Hispanic Black or African American, 3.4% non-Hispanic Asian, 0.6% from some other race (non-Hispanic) and 1.2% of two or more races (non-Hispanic). 53.5% of Bronx’s population was of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin. The Bronx is the center of enormous beauty and culture, including the New York Botanical Garden and The New York Zoo.
